Comment: I have a problem (obviously). At any random time, while I am using my computer. My Cd-Rom pops open and closes forever. It stops for about 10 min. and starts all over again. I believe its a prank virus. How can I get rid of it? Jose Rodriguez

Reply: (edit)This is a follow up. I have a much bigger problem now. Now it doesn't even detect the hardware for it. I have a DVD-Rom and a CD-Rw but now it doesnt detect the CD-Rw, I cant even open it to put a disc in it. I dont know what is happening. My PC is also constantly freezing up. Please help, I want to use the recovery disc, but I want to save everything I need onto CD's but I cant do that without my system detecting the drive. Please, please, please help. Thank You. Jose Rodriguez

Reply: (edit)Did you scan for viruses or are you just guessing about that? You really should find out first. If Windows ME and your DVD and CDRW drives came preinstalled on your PC then you can use the recovery disks without losing your files. But you will have to reinstall any non-ME programs to make them work again. So, if you don't have them on disks or can't get them back from the web I guess you are out of luck. With WinME (at least on my HP Pavilion PC w/OEM ME) You can use the recovery disks to reinstall your software without losing your files etc. When you put the recovery disk in and restart your PC it will ask you if you want to do a full install or a partial. Choosing the partial installation will reinstall all the original software. THEN you have to go through the rigamaroll of reinstalling your non-ME programs. I hope this helps. If you get responses from other people maybe one of them may be able to help you fix it without doing the Recovery thing (it is a pain in the.......) GOOD LUCK
