Hello. I am having trouble playing Diablo on my machine. I can install the game just fine from the CD (the the autorun feature is working properly); however, when I try to play Diablo, it gives me this error:
"Please insert the Diablo CD into your CD-ROM drive and press 'OK'."

I receive this message even when the CD is already in the drive, and I click on OK. So, when I click CANCEL, I receive the message telling me that Diablo could not read the diabdat.mpq file.

Just as a simple check, I can open up Windows Explorer, go the CD-ROM drive (which is D on my machine), view all the files on the CD, and copy any file to my harddrive.

I also experience problems when I'm trying to install Quake2 (the demo) on my machine. During the installation, it reports that it cannot find the CD-ROM drive.

I have a Windows95 machine also, and both Diablo and Quake2 work perfectly.

Here are the specifications of my computer:

Model: Hewlett Packard Pavilion XE735
Processor: Intel Celeron 667MHz
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
RAM: 64 MB
CD-ROM: 48x SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148

If you need more information, please reply to this or e-mail me at jhhughley@peoplepc.com or zir0@netzero.net.
Thanx in advance!

I have never tried anything like this in Windows ME, but since the program will not find drive D look for any drives further down the alphabet than D:. If you do have some, try to load MSCDEX manually in the autoexec.bat and use the /L:H switch where H: is the drive you want the CD to become.

Are these Cds the originals, or copies? This sounds like what happens when some Cds are copied. You could always try a No Cd file so you don't have to use the Cd all of the time.
