cd-r missing but running

my "cd writer plus" drive runs intermittantly (often concurrant with a hang), doesn't show up in My Computer, and is not detected by cd writing programs on my computer. couple these problems with occassional threats of "system failure immanent" and "unstable" warnings (that have cleared up some since i followed burzurq.com's Me advice)and i'm more than a little put out. can anyone help?

Try doing system restore at a point before this problem occured. If that doesn't work, I think you should install the latest drivers for your "cd write plus".

You need to determine if this is a software or hardware problem. Use a windows bootdisk with cdrom support to determine if the cd is working properly.
