Everytime a insert a CD or DVD I get the following message: an exception OE has occurred at 0028:c18328FB in VxD Schi1hlp (3) + 0000058B. This was called from 0028:c1832800 in VxD SCSi1hlp (3) + 00000510.
The sysyed goes blank and I have to restart. Can it be fixed, or do I have to reformat the harddrive?

your system specs?... is your computer still under waranty?... try waranty first!... if not
- try the "system restore" to the time before that was happening
- then reinstalling windows over itself without formating
- reinstalling windows into a different subdirectory without formating
- if none above works then format and reinstall
but first check your system specs if they are enoug to run winodws ME and CD or DVD at the same time ;-)...

SCSI1HLP.VxD is an old Windows 95 file. Unless your box is actually SCSI... and I don't think that is the case here... the file is not needed.

Boot into safe mode by either tapping on the F8 key after the computer POSTs(the memory check and the *beep*) or by holding down the CTRL key.
Then choose #3 safe mode from the menu.
Find the file SCSI1HLP.VxD.
Right click and choose to rename it.
Rename it to SCSI1HLP.old.
Reboot.

Try your movie now.

Have a look at this Microsoft KB article for reference:
Fatal Exception 0E in Scsi1hlp.vxd After Upgrading to Windows Millennium Edition

Or you could just simply try reinstalling the driver through the system manager. That would be the first thing I would do because its nothing permanent.

Jake... renaming the file is not permanent. If, for some reason, this poster finds something on his/her computer needs the SCSI1HLP.VxD file after he/she renames it to scsi1hlp.old... then he/she can rename it back to scsi1hlp.vxd.

... it's really that easy...
