The problem is that my cd rom won't recognize a blank disk.
My question is when I look at the Device under Options, I see that Auto Insert Notification is checked and DMA is checked. However, Sync Data Transfer is not checked. Is this all correct?
Also, under Driver it says that no driver files are required or have been installed for this device. When I try to do so, it says that Windows is using the best driver.
I have a Memorex 52MAxx 3252AJ CD Rom.
I would be grateful for any help.

Micki,

First thing is to check your burning software, that it's configured/set properly and not corupted. (e.g. nero or what ever you use)

I'm assuming the cd drive is a CD-RW, and not "Rom", "cd rom" as you've said.

Also, it might depend on burning software, the burner, how you are going to use the disk (drag and drop, copy and paste, ect.), might need to format the blank cd first, that's might. A lot of variables

Your settings r correct, same as 4 my 48x16x48 CDRW. Windows don't needno extra software to operate it as A CDROM.
To burn is where NERO/NTI/ADAPTEC get involved.

B-CERT,

Indeed, that is what Micki is trying to do, burn.

"The problem is that my cd rom won't recognize a blank disk."

CN #45508
"I have always copied images to a cd by right clicking on the folder and using the Send To command. However, just lately my cd rom drive isn't recognizing that I have a blank disk in it. It recognizes disks with images but not blank disks. It gives me the message to put in a disk. The D drive isn't even listed in the Send To"

Micki, what burning software do you use? Someone might be able to help you, with that info. Also, are you able to burn at all? Thanks and good luck.

In answer to questions by S.T.A.R., I am using Nero and am able to copy a music cd.
However, when I try to drag and drop images or use the Send To, my drive does NOT recognize a BLANK disk. This is what I don't understand - why I can do one thing and not the other. It won't even allow me to format the blank disk.

Hello Micki,

If you are using nero (didn't say which version), then that would also mean you are using InCD (version 3.x, 4.x). Check to make sure InCD is installed, might even try updating (if that's prudent), or reinstall/reinstate it.

The disk(s) you are using for this are CD-RW, yes?

Some reading and help on this issue.

Hi S.T.A.R.,
I am using Nero 5 which came with my Memorex drive when I got it about a year ago and which worked fine until recently.
I did, in fact, reinstall Nero last night but with the same results.
I intend to read the sites which you sent me and download the InCd cleaner.
Thanks.
Micki

Hello again Micki,

You said you "reinstall Nero", that's good, but, it's the "InCD" that needs (re)installing. You can get it, from the links I provided, or off the install CD. Nero, InCD, Nero Vision, ect., are separate programs. As such, all things don't have to be installed, for just plain nero to function. As you've found out.

If, if after you've installed/reinstalled InCD, and have a problem still. You might, might have to make a change in your CD-RW drive settings. That's a might.

Can you think of anything, that was done to the computer "recently". (new software, hardware, updates, virus, ect.)

You're welcome and good luck
S.T.A.R.
