I have a Packard Bell iConnect. I have been experiencing problems with the CD Re-Writer that came with the computer. I have only used the CD Re-Writer once (to create the Master Discs). The problem is that either during boot-up or when working on the computer, the CD Re-Writer "Disc In" light illuminates, either orange or green, and this causes the computer to crash, and I have to turn it off by pressing the Power button. When it occurs during boot-up , I can neither get into Windows, or reach the stage where I can press Ctrl to enter Safe Mode.
Today, I went into Device Manager, and it said that it was working properly, and I tried to update the driver, but it said that the most up-to-date driver already installed.
When I called Packard Bell Support, the man told me to use System Restore, which I did to no avail, and then to re-install Windows, but I personally think this is a drastic solution for this problem. Any other suggestions? Also, if you go into Device Manager, and then select the drive, and then click on Remove, does this mean that Windows will no longer recognise the drive? Thanks.

If you remove the CD drive in device manager, the next time you boot, the drive will be re-detected and the proper driver installed. Worth a try, yet may not fix your problem.
Best
