Could someone please tell me how I can get the CD/CDR to work, it doesn't show up in MyComputer. It has power, trays open but no cds work.

is it showing up in the bios? it could be dead.
It could also be a driver issue.
One way to test is to swap it with a known working CD drive.
Some times "re-seating" the IDE cables makes a difference. power off the computer and disconnect all cables from the back, open the computer case, unplug the IDE cable from both ends, and plug them back in. Hook your computer back up and turn it on.
good luck.

Is the Master / Slave / Cable Select jumper on the back of the CD drive set to Master if it is the only CD drive?

If you have any games that use Starforce copy protection it can cause this problem, this may help (bottom of page):

Thanks for the replies. I finally found some time to check this out, here's what I found so far.
Primary drive0 38166mb
Secondary drive0 *cdrom
Secondary drive1 *cdrom cdr/rwWhat do the stars mean???
In MyComputer, D is listed as SYSTEM_SAV D:
In device manager: floppy controller, primary IDE controller, both secondary IDE controllers and standard bus mastering IDE hd controller are all showing code 10 (device not present, not working, or not all drivers installed.)
I tried to update drivers, best drivers already installed.
Any suggestions?
