My machine can read normal, music CDs but when it comes to some CD-RWs or Rs it remains sure that there is NO CD in the drive even though there is!
I tried to write some files onto a blank CD-RW and it got a few KBs into the first file and then aborted. the CD is now left with one, small, unusable file on it and when i put this CD in my machine the CD drive cannot read it. I think the CD drive cant read the CD because the file is uncomplete or something.
This is annoying considering the computer has to read the CD before im able to erase all the data on it.
I have just tried using my friend's CD-R and that worked fine because it was totally blank.
Can someone please tell me a way of getting my CD Drive to read this CD. Thanks!

need more info. sounds like the problem when i had my machine. what kind of burning software do you use? who made your machine and what type of writer does it use (e.g., who made it, speed, etc). what type of disc are you using?

Many CD drives cannot read CD-RW discs, and CD-R discs must be Closed before they can be read.
Since you have an unusable portion of a file on a CD-RW disc, you can delete it (thats why it's ReWritable). If you can't, then there's probably something wrong with the disc and it should be discarded (that is, if you can use other discs in your CD-RW drive).-Burbble

Burning software: Nero
It says AMD Athlon on the front of the tower unit
CD Drive: Memorex CDRW/DVD 6424-4. not sure of speed, i think 6x is the fastest i can remember seeing it.
Disk: TDK CD-RW 650mb - it can write up to 4xIve used this RW in my computer last week and it worked fine. and i cant delete the file on my disk because the machine AND Nero say that there isnt a CD in there, so it wont try and delete anything.

Not sure what the deal is. You might try two things: (1) Turn your CD speed down to match the disk; (2) Nero's helppage: http://www.nero.com/en/content/helptool/153.htm#o153

if you have a packet writing software like directcd, when you insert the CD-RW disc (formatted of course) and the machine detects it cannot read it, the disc itself will install a file onto that computer allowing cd-rw reading capability
