I have Nero burning software installed. When I go to use my burner, it starts then a power calibration error comes up , it stops. I have reinstalled Nero. How should I deal with this?

Several possible causes. The drive could be bad. The read/write optics could be dirty or have dust on it. You might need a firmware flash update for the CD-RW drive to support newer media. You have not updated the Nero software with updates from their web site. But the most likely cause is bad or wrong type of media. Cheap quality CD-R or CD-RW disks may not work. Or you have an older drive and are trying to use high speed CD's that are not compatible with your drive. Higher speed CDs are made with different technology and the drive may not support the mode necessary. The most expensive CDs are not always the best to use unless you have the newest and fastest drive. This is also a common problem with Memorex CDs.

On blank CDs there is a "power calibration" track or area. This area is used by the drive to determine the best power to use to burn holes into the media. If it can not do this for any of the above reasons, you get the power calibration error.
