Can't view files

I can't view the contents of my folders. When I click on a folder the "frame" is blank or a small black dot appears in the upper left hand corner. Also I cannot "restore" because when I click on that folder it opens up blank. I'm able to see the icons ok and they do open. Unfortunately I can't view the contents. This problem started a few days ago after installing High Speed Internet. I tried to uninstall the various HSI files but I can't even view anything in the Contol Panel folder.

Mike: Try this: In the menu for My Computer choose <TOOLS> then Folder Options then <VIEW> Make sure the line "Display all Control Panel Options and all folder contents" is checked under "Files and Folders".

Hi and thank the lord there is not only me having this problem. I have tried the above method , however , where it says browse to the following registry key , i cannot find the ones that it says to go to . ive even searched for them but no. It says: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{f414c260-6ac0-11cf-b6d1-00aa00bbbb58}\InprocServer32
But on mine after: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ there is not the rest.
