At some point I "lost" the uninstall part of the Mcafee virus scanner 30 day free trial. Now I cannot uninstall it through the McAfee unintall command or through the add/remove programs option. I have tried re-downloading and re-installing but it won't even re-install without removing which it cannot do. I have tried trashing everything I can find but don't know all the files - NOW FOR THE COMPLICATION - I need a virus program so bought and installed NAV 2001 which tells me there is STILL another virus program running! can anyone tell me how to get rid of the McAfee bits that are obviously still hanging around (I haven't a clue what they would be)?

Don't distroy your unit over this. I can tell you there is nothing (that I have found) that can be done for this, short of formatting the drive. The Techs at McAfee don't know either.
We have a unit that we installed that 30 day trial on over a year ago and it still flashs "can't start your antivirus softaware, please make sure it's installed properly" everytime Outlook is opened.

Maghekan, have you looked for a 'McAfee' folder? Is uninstall in there? Might be a hidden folder.Might be under another name? Just a SWAG here.HTH.

Try a freeware/shareware, 3rd party "uninstaller".

Have you tried this..?
Manual Uninstall of McAfee VirusScan 5.1x (Windows 9x/ME only)
GL

I seem to recall McAfee had an oddball uninstall where you had to right click on McAfee in the main Start menu and select uninstall.

Thanks to Jimi_1 - success!! went to the site you suggested and followed the step by step manual uninstall instructions - at first it did not work but then went back to regedit and searched for and deleted everything "McAfee" and WOW there was alot more left over - once all of these were deleted then no more warnings on Outlook or with NAV.
Thanks so much
