I have MacAfee virus scan 7 with firewall installed on my PC. The subscription has long run out and I have been using AVG and have a router (firwall).

Previously I tried to disable and remove the firewall. When I did my PC froze up. This started after the firewall had errors disabling and it would not disable which was after the subscription ran out. I could "end Task" exlpore and try to continue but nothing would open. It would freeze again. I tried the McAfee help forum but no recommendations there worked. So I left the firewall in and running and have been living with it. My performance is slow and memory drained.

I dicided to try to remove it again with the help of the McAfee forum again. I used a manual removal method that removes all files including registry files. There should be no sign of McAfee firewall files on my PC.

My PC worked ok after this for the day, up until I restarted and it froze up again. The only programs that will open and work are other than my compter, my documents, outlook, internet explore. When I click on these or the start bar menues or explore drop menu it will freeze. Other installed programs seem to work.

What would be causing this problem when the firewall is disable or removed?
The Mcafee help seems at a loss now...
How can I fix it?

Does the system run without hanging when you try the same basic operations after booting into Safe Mode. If not, then something being loaded from the Startup list is causing the problems. Have you tried running MSCONFIG and checking that all of the McAfee items have been removed from the startup list.

A registry error could have caused the system to use an older backup copy of the Registry after rebooting, that is now loading the programs you think were removed.

Yes I have function when in safe mode but can not back up any files to CD since teh funtion is not available.

My startup list is minimal and no McAfee antivirus or firewall programs are in the selective start up. Previoulsy the firwall had to be enabled for my PC to work. If disable or removed it would not work.

I had all McAfee files removed manually, including in the registry according the the instruction from McAfee. My PC would still not work. I reinstalled the Antivirus but the firwall would not install. After the last uninstall I got an error"Internal Error 2753-F17458_cpd.exe" and firewall would not install.

I finally restored the registry from the back up and soon as I did that my pc is working again, but I don't know if the problem will re-occur on restart since I have not done that yet. The firewall program is not installed.

It seems to be related to the registry if the firewall is not installed and the PC is working again with the old registy.

The only thing is...what is removed from the registry with Mcaffee and how am I going to find out?
