I am running Windows ME on a dell inspiron 8000. The laptop is working fine, until I try to connect to the network. I go into the network settings an place the domain name in & restore network connections box. After that, I have to manually enter the IP and subnet mask. However, I cannot get a cursor to appear so I can type. I have the same problem when trying to put the gateway in. I already highlighted the box which would allow me to type in an IP address, and it still does not give me a cursor to begin typing. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Do you have a checkmark next to the "use DHCP"? If so, remove it.

Have you tried uninstalling everything in the network stack(ie: Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP, File and Print sharing, etc..), uninstalling Dial up Networking from Control Panel>>add/remove programs>>Windows components>>communications, then reinstalling everything?
It may be worth a shot... maybe the properties sheet is just pooched. Rebuilding the network stack may take care of the problem.

I was wandering if you found any solution to your problem, which happens to be exactly the same problem I'm having. I'm also running a Dell Inspiron 8000 with windows ME. Will not allow anything to be typed in the IP address box
