i'm having multiple problems with my system; i will be reformatting soon. Tonight, I hit something, i don't know what, and suddenly music started playing on my computer, it's a midi file, endless loop. I can't stop it. I've rebooted three times but it still plays when the system comes back up. There are no media players open, at least not that I can see. I've opened each of them (WMP, QT, WinAmp, MusicMatch), and clicked the stop button, but nothing happens. If I use the player to play music, then it plays simultaneously with the already playing midi.
does anyone know where this music is coming from and how to turn it off? I would like to find where the file is so I can save it. I want to keep it, but where is it coming from? Is there any way to find out what applications are open? there's no open programs in my system tray.

I dont' didn' run virsscan beause i can't access the internet, If i use cntr/alt/del, may it will tell which program is playing. i thnk it bringss up the big blues screen instead
Is there some program that will show you all your running programs?

Yes, Ctrl/alt/del will open a small box that will give you a list of all programs running on your pc, from there, you can close the one you want by selecting it. But be carefull, hit it only once not twice otherwise your pc will reboot.

I tried control alt delete and it gave the following programs:
Explorer
Sndvol32
Winmgmt
SystrayI dont' think any of those are media players or midi players. Do these give a clue about why this midi is playing continuously and why it doesn't stop even after rebooting? Is there a control panel where you can set a midi or other sound to play on start up? I wish i had a better idea of how it started. I was reaching around the back of the computer to check if one of the USB ports was free. My arm may have brushed against something or the keyboard, I really dont' know, but that midi suddenly started playing. After rebooting, to my surprise, it started playing again.
thanks

By chance do you have a cd in your drive. Those can have music on them and you will have no idea where it is coming from.

If you search google for Sndvol32 [send volume?] you will find a bunch of hits that might be related.
Maybe somethings stuck or maybe your hit with a "funny" virus?
Enter MSCONFIG and uncheck that item from starting with windows.

Nope, no CD in the computer.
I think that Sndvol32 is Sound Volume. There are only two things in the system tray, the little volume control thing and the thing you use when you unplug USB devices.
