Subject: Can't See Mouse PointerOS: Windows MECPU/Ram: Duron |
Comment: I'm trying to fix a computer for someone, its loaded with spyware. The problem is that the mouse pointer isn't there. I've tried using different mice, changing the mouse scheme and display themes, and the mouse pointer still does not appear. The machine's running Windows ME (argh). Anyone know how I could get the pointer back?

Reply: (edit)Josh, First- "...its loaded with spyware..." Did you have a "pointer", before you started removing this stuff? What type of mouse is it, and what other types have you tried? Have you tried booting into Safe mode, and if so, is it there then? If it's USB, is that enabled in the BIOS? A lot of questions, I could ask :-) Let us know, exactly, what you've tried, thanks. Reply: (edit)After posting this, I found an article in the Microsoft KB that said to remove some garbage from the system.ini file. I did find a lot of unreadable characters in the file, and deleted them. The mouse pointer still wasn't there. After installing the software that came with my Intellipoint mouse, the pointer still wasn't visable. Two restarts later, the pointer came back. I'm not sure which did it, the system.ini edits or the Intellipoint software, maybe even both. Looks like I solved my own problem. The link for the KB article is http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316544, if anyone else is having this problem.

Reply: (edit)samaria, Josh did post the article, that said helped them. It's at the end of their response; support.mi...kbid=316544 ^^That's a hyperlink, just click it, and it will take you to the article. If you have continued problems, start your own question, and someone will lend a hand. Good Luck, CrazyOne p.s. Might even try rolling back the registry, as that also restores a good system.ini file. Good luck
