Can't run Disk Defragment

I tried to run disk defragment program and I got a error message said, "the disk is currently locked by another disk utility. Please unlock the disk and try again."
Anybody have any idea?

Probably there is a program running that keeps the hard disk occupied . Try to locate it and shut it off .

or you could boot into safe mode and defrag.

Do you have an antivirus program on the computer? This might be your problem.

If you have Powerdefrag installed it has a safety lock that can get stuck in the on position. In its program group you have to click disengage safety lock.

1. install 3rd deframnenter software ( ie: diskkeeper or Norton 2000 )
2. use those 3rd party software to defrag
3. uninstall those 3rd party software
4. re-run Win98 defragmenter

1. Delete folder applog from C:\Windows
2. Click start-program-acessories-disk clenaup
3. select folder you want to clean up
4. reboot on DOS mode and scandisk manually
5. Reboot and defrag under windows

Good luck
note : if you have antivirus software installed, pls uninstalled prior above precedure
