Can't run defrag on ME

I try to run the defragment option, but all I get is a message saying the process has to keep restarting and it never completes the defrag. Is there some way I can get defrag to run? I have tried unloading programs and still no luck

Have you tried STOPPING all programs in your task bar (bottom right hand corner) before running defrag?? OR have you tried from Safe Mode??

Boot into safe mode ( reboot and tap the F8 key as it starts to boot up then run scandisk first , then defrag in safe mode " You're only as safe as your last update "
