Can anybody help me? Running WinME on an IBM preloaded Netvista thing - when I try to ping the local machine (127.0.0.1) I get a 'bad command or file name. Suggestions anyone?

Sounds like TCP isn't installed. To check right click on network neighbourhood and go to properties. If TCP/IP is not listed click on ADD then select Protocol. TCP/IP is under Microsoft. After re-booting try again.

Do you know that any IP address that starts with 127. is a software loopback test. To check and see it TCP/IP is installed and loaded correctly, you ping 127.0.0.1 this reroutes the packets back to the source computer. If this isn't working, it's not installed or loaded correctly. The address of 255.255.255.255 is a broadcast to all on the network. Do you have the IP of the computer your trying to ping?

I was trying the loopback 127.0.0.1 - tried to ping DNS & I tried the 255 as above - but same thing - I don't think its the address as "bad command or file name" - I suspect now that ping.exe maynot be loaded on my 'IBM preload'machine. Does anybody know where I could get hold of it? Is this a reasonable explanation for my problem?
