Hi. I have a cd I used to back up various things off my computer. (Made with Easy CD Creator) I had to reinstall Windows ME and I am having trouble copying files back on my computer. A lot of the files give the error messages: (file) is not a valid Win32 application. Or "Cannot read from the source file or disk."
Zip files give the following error:
"unrecoverable zip file read errors."
And : "It does not appear to be a valid archive."I can see the files and the properties show a full cd with the same used space as what was copied. I don't understand why I cannot retrieve these. Is there something I can do?
Thanks,
Gene

Read and/or Write errors. The ROXIO CD-RW software has a nasty "feature" sometimes when it has errors reading data off of some CDs. It just fills in the parts it can not read with Zeros, which can be written back onto the CD when it is updated. This is what is causing the "not a valid Win32 application" and the zip file errors.
So clean the CD good and try again. If you still have problems, take the CD to a different machine and see if you can read it OK and check that the files are valid. The files may not be valid any more. It may be possible to recover older copies of files off of the CD, but no bets.
This nasty problem sees to occur after you have updated (or added data to) the CD about 10 or so times. Have seen it on both CD-R and CD-RW. But have never found a reliable way to reproduce the problem.
