I rec'd this attachment(photo) in my MSN email program(ISP is DELLNET). It reads
PNJWed.jpg[2_2].dat.The PNJ is just the initials representing the couple in photo:I tried IRfan, Readers Acrobat,Word..etc. The screen message says this file is NOT readable by the program I choose... How might I open this?
I am brand new..Have a Dell 4100 ME and would appreciate your suggestions..Thanks very much all.

be carefull if you're not expecting an e-mail with an attachment, many virus/worms are spread this way.
since it has 2 extensions .jpg.dat
dat is the format the file was sent
and isn't a viewable pic format.
if you know who sent this have them resend it as a jpg

TREV:
Hi there..would you tell me how to delete this part the .dat pls.I hope you return to this question....I'd like to try!
ECT: I do know the individual I just haven't been able to make contact and was looking forward to seeing the photo..THANKS
for the warning!!

to delete the .dat part right click
on the file name and choose rename
then click in the box and backspace out the dat or rename it anything.jpg
then press enter.it is usually from people you know that
bad attachments arrive from, these worm programs will send out virus to everyone in the persons address book.
take care
ect

I should have mentioned the virus issue - thanks. Be very careful and have you up to date virus protection?

FOLKS:
ECT and TREV:
I've learned some things
here...thank you for the step by step.
I hope you never lose that generosity
to new computer users.. SMILES..
There is another Nadine who is NOT new..
but I didn't know that..I'll change my
name so not to confuse others who help
me as a newcomer..

do any of you ppl know a viewer for legit .dat files?
i tried opening a dat file in word but that didnt work, is there a program like word, or will i have to download one?
thx ppl.

hi,
another way of changing the name is to fo to the dos -prompt and then use the ren command
the syntax is c:\>ren filename
Regards
Sanjeev

Any time I send an attachment through Outlook/earthlink.... be it .zip file .jpeg or .doc it ends up on the receiver end as a .dat file.
How do I stop this? Help!
-Susie
