cant open from desktop icons

Out of the blue, without making any changes I find that I can no longer open from desktop icon shortcuts. Double clicking only brings up full name and highlights name box. When right clicking to bring up the menue and clicking on "open" does not work either.????

Delete 'em,one-by-one if you wish,and create new shortcuts...they're probably corrupted.

The My computer, My documents, My Briefcase Etc files wont open either. I dont think I want to delete them.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Also that being the case, how do I get at those files other than thru desktop Icons?

click on start.... run.... type in scanreg /fix then ok
windows will fix the entry in your registry so you can access the shortcuts.

Attempted to follow your advice. I get a pop-up saying "widows can not find the file scanreg/fix". After clicking OK screen clears and I still have the problem. Tried it 3 times......same result.
