My computer was working fine until yesterday. I can still run applications, but whenever I try to open a folder or even run a search for an application, I always get this message:
"Explorer has caused an error in FTAPP.DLL
Explorer will now close."I've tried everything. I've restarted, I've defraged my C Drive, and it's still doing this. I'm trying to install the PC Cillin House call in order to find out if I have a virus. But I can't even get it installed, because it says it can't find the netscape plugin folder, even though I've specified that folder for the installer.
CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON?????

I hit submit to quick...:)

FTAPP.DLL is a file to do with advertising spyware.
First, search for, and then rename the file
eg to FTAPP.SPY
Then if you have Adaware Spyware program, run it and see what it finds.

If it's a recent incarnation of this lovely piece of crapware, you may be able to uninstall it from add/remove programs in the control panel.
If you cannot get into control panel due to the error...
Go to start>>run
Type
appwiz.cplThe add/remove programs applet should come up.
Find FTAPP in the list and uninstall it.
Then get on the net and download/install/run...
... to help you remove any other lovely pieces of spyware that may have hooked itself into internet explorer/explorer.
