I am having the same problem with windowsme and win98 trying to install them. I have a 1.3GHZ Amd Duron chip in a Pine 361BS motherboard. No matter how many times I fdisk or format I still get the "STANDARD MODE CANNOT RUN BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM WITH YOUR EXTENDED MEMORY MANAGER TRY RECONFIGURING YOUR MEMORY MANAGER OR REPLACING IT WITH HIMEM.SYS, IF YOU ARE USING HIMEM.SYS YOU NEED TO RECONFIGURE IT OR OBTAIN A NEW VERSION" message. I have changed out the memory to several new ones that I have and changed the settings in cmos and still no go. Any help would be appreciated.

Try downloading a new bootdisk from: http://www.bootdisk.com/original.htm Download the "Custom, No ramdrive" files that pertain to the version of windows that you are loading. With the computer off, insert the new boot diskette that you make. (Note: Make sure that the windows cd is NOT in the cdrom drive) Turn the computer on, when the computer reads the diskette it should come to a menu, from that menu choose 'start computer with cd-rom support'. Once you're at the C:> prompt type FORMAT C: /Q then hit enter. When this is complete and you are back to the C:> prompt, Insert your Windows cd into the cd-rom drive then type D:\setup then hit 'enter'. At this point if all goes well you should be in windows setup. (Note:) If you have 2 Hard Drives the cd-rom drive will be E:\setup Hope this helps

I too was having the same problem. I am going to post this on the msg board, but I wanted to make sure you got it. To solve it, what I did was go into the BIOS. Choose "LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS" Then go to Standard CMOS Features and make sure your FLoppy drive is selected in the Drive A row Then boot from a boot disk and it worked for me on three different computers I had to configure. I hope this solves your problem too (if you haven't already figured it out)
