I'm trying to install Office 2000 on my PC, but it stops while installing. It doesn't mean that the PC is stuck or anything (I can move my mouse, and also use other applications). I get NO error messages. But when I try force to quit (going to "Start" and "Shut Down" or "Restart"), it wouldn't shut it down nor restart. It just would keep staying on. I have to manually quit (meaning pressing the button). Would anyone kindly tell me what is going on?? I need to install it for my work...!

Firstly if a program hangs like that try using Ctrl + Alt + Del and using "End Task" to close the program. Look at the Office 2000 entry and at the end, in brackets, it should say "Not Responding". Highlight the entry and click End Task.
And try and avoid unnecessary "manual quit" shutdowns. They are bad for your box.
At what stage in all this does it hang, is it the same spot each time ?
Have you cleaned the CD thoroughly, making sure there are no scratches or crap on it ?
When was the last time you cleaned house ?
If it was a good while ago, then first download and run Delindex. Then download and run fully updated versions of Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware6
Any other odd behaviour you've noticed ?
If so, try an online scan or two as well. TrendMicros - Housecall and Pandas Active Scan.Disabling System Restore first. Then re enabling it after the scans have completed.
Then take a read through these, How to run Windows ME well, version 5 and FIX ME, while your there.
Is the drive your trying to install the disk from ok ? Does it happen with another disk ?
Without an error message to go off your struggling, but these are some of the basic generic type things you can be doing to start off with.

hello
allso rebooting to safe mode and install it from there works some times.because nothing else is left running.and office takes lots of resources to install.not so bad once its done.
