In the start menu when I click on help I get the help page but I can get no further. When I click on the index to help topics I just get a blank page. I know the upgrades aren't supported anymore but shouldn't the help index be on the ME hard disc installed on this computer?
I think it is some sort of ME glitch .Same thing happened to me and could never resolve it, (didn't try that hard :-)) . I had to reinstall ME and that fixed that issue also .

When I tried to download Easy Cleaner I got a message saying the source file could not be read. I did the save as thing without having easy cleaner and saved the page in My Documents. When I double clicked it in My Documents I got a message that the problem has been fixed after running easy cleaner. I said above that I don't have easy cleaner yet I got that message that the problem has been fixed. I tried to use Help from the start menu again but it still wouldn't work.

Didn't work. Maybe I did something wrong but maybe this will help. When I double click icon (EClear2_0) on my desktop I get a message saying- C:\Windows\Desktop\EClear2_0.exe is not a valid Win32 application

I got the fixwinmehelp in My Documents. When I doule click it I get a confirmation box that says- This VB script has repaired the damage done when you ran easy cleaner on your Win Me installation, by restoring the correct Registry values for Windows Help. I still get the blank page when I try to use Windows Help. I did restart the computer before trying it. Could it have something to do with running Eusing the free registry cleaner? I ask this because you and the confirmation box mention Easy Cleaner which I cannot get. Your other suggestion-http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305666 looks too complex and I don't want to mess around with changing the registry. Maybe I just won't bother trying to get the Win Help working.

Run Windows Setup to reinstall Windows Me, which will replace the missing Helpctr.exe file.... either one wants or does'nt need "help"
