Looking at a lady's computer running windows ME, she bought a software called Net Boost Pro and loaded it onto her computer and then when she got on the internet she would connect ok but the browser would come back and say website or server not found no matter what website she tries to connect to, e-mail also won't work. She uninstalled the package and the same thing kept happening, This is when she called me. I ran jv16 Power Tools and found one reference to the Net Boost in the registry and deleted it but it didn't help, then I reloaded windows ME upgrade and then reloaded internet explorer 5.5. Still can't connect to any websites or e-mail. Anybody run across this before or have any ideas what I could try?

Thanks

from 3B software:
"Net Boost™ Pro automatically maximizes your Internet speed by boosting the Internet data transport efficiency. Net Boost™ Pro technology is so advance that it adapts your modem, or high-speed connections to its optimal performance potential."

It doesn't appear you are connecting to your ISP. That would explain the server not found and the lack of email connection.

Check your connection setup. The connection file wouldn't be replaced by the unindstalls or reinstalls. It's likely that Net Boost Pro changed something there. Blast it away and recreate it.

When it all boils down, you only get a boost if your system is configured wrong. That is of course when it works.

OK. does she have the email connection? What is the exact message when it fails to find a web site? Does it find Her ISP website?

not finding a website can be caused by lack of a DNS (domain name server). It converts a text based web location such as www.microsoft.com to "207.46.134.222". without it you get something like "web site not found"

Is she wunning a firewall that is blocking outgoing requests or maybe port 80?

Type IPCONFIG /ALL (note the space before the slash symbol) at a DOS prompt when dialled up to the ISP. Look for DNS Server addresses and Default gateway IP addresses.

Now type PING ****.****.****.**** where the asterisks represent the IP addresses of the DNS servers and the default gateway - at least check for response. If any time out then check your browser proxy settings are not set to either 1.2.3.4 or 127.0.0.1 and if still in trouble, contact the ISP.
