Help months ago I must have downloaded some type of convienceprograms. A icon labeled temporary internet files showed up on my desktop. So I would just click on it after browsing and my temporary internet file would open and I would be able to conviently delete my cookiesetc.. Well recently I upgraded to AOL 7.o and IE6.o. Now when I click on this desktop icon nothing will open up. I try right clicking and I get open(which won't open),I get explore (which opens my desktop exployer file and I see the icon listed but I can't delete it.The last item I get from right click is create short cut. I know I was dumb for not remembering, but I can't get this Icon off the desktop. I've tried dragging to recycle bin and it won't go. I've tried dragging to another file and it appears to go in but when I check the file its not there also the icon stays on the desktop. Even dell techs could't help. I am running windows me and the icon is a folder with what appears to be a clock on it .I see no arrow. Please can anyone help. Thanks Rhino

Have you tried tweak ui? The desktop tab and uncheck temporary internet files Then try the repair tab and choose Rebuild icons.

Possibly deleting your ShellIconCache will help. others here can tell you better but this might work.

Microsoft have at last released the Final Build of TweakUI 2000 Version 1.33 at the following Web address:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

Note that it is on the NT Download Site, But lists it for all versions from 95 onwards.

Try booting into safe mode and deleting it.

To boot into safe mode:
Reboot.
After the Dell screen start tapping on the F8 key over and over.
You should get a boot menu.
Choose #3 safe mode.

Delete from there.

If that does not work... delete it from DOS.

To do this:
First... while in Windows... right click on the file and get the exact name. Somethng like temporary internet files.lnk or whatever it is. You will need the three letter extension also.
Boot with a bootdisk.
At the a:\> prompt type each of these commands and press enter after each of them.

c:
cd windows
cd desktop
deltree (name of file you obtained in step one).(file extension)

Once it is deleted, pull out he bootdisk and press ctrl+alt+del to boot back into Windows.
It should be gone.
