I just signed up with Time Warner cable broadband connection. When I write an address to go to a website, the site goes to a netster.com/.....it would not connect to any other site. I already runned an anti-spyware and scan it for viruses. The computer is supposedly clean of all the spywares and viruses. The broadband connection is good since I tried using my other computer and i was able to connect to the internet. What should I do?jo

Do you have something like 'Netster Bar' in Add/remove programs?
What are you using for antispyware & antivirus?
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

Thank you jboy for replying. No, I don't have netster on the add/remove program. I used Counter Spy and Mcaffee anti-spywares and mcaffee anti-virus.

Hi - sorry for the delay in replying.
Are you using Internet Explorer, or another browser? Are you able to use browsers such as Firefox or Opera without the problem?
It does sound like some form of browser hijack - it wouldn't hurt to download, install, update & run Ad-aware & Spybot - links here
If that doesn't help, then you might want to download HiJackThis! (down the page, under 'Official Downloads' - version: 1.99.1)
Unzip it into its own folder (such as C:\HJT) run it and perform a scan - save the scan and paste it back here, we'll see what turns up

Hi jboy, I already used Ad aware spyware but this also did not work. What I did was to install a new browser.Yes, I installed Firefox Mozilla and now I am able to connect to the Internet.I still want to thank you for your responses. I might try doing the HijackThis just to see what really happened to my IE. Since the Firefox is working, is there a need for me to fix the IE aside from my curiousity?
jo

Firefox is an excellent browser, and probably the simplest thing a person can do to avoid spyware problems.
Since only IE is affected, it does sound like the classic browser hijack - it would be a good idea to resolve the problem, as Internet Explorer is something of a 'necessary evil' - you may need it for certain websites.
If you do decide to perform a scan with HJT!, you can paste the log into this analyzer, or paste it into *this* message and I'll have a look.
(just don't post a new question at Computing.Net with the log, as that may be removed)
If you're unfamiliar with HiJackThis! then it's probably better to wait for advice on what (if anything) to fix

Hi jboy,Got too busy with other stuff so I was not able to reply right away.I looked into the HJT. It looks too complicated for me. I guess for now, I will stick with the Firefox Mozilla browser.Thank you again for your help. I might still do the HJT once I have the guts to do this.

Sure thing. It's no big deal just to run it and see what's there, the danger is having it fix (remove entries) that may be necessary.
You can always put the log through that analyzer to see what gets identified as 'bad' - not as good as a 'real live human' but a good starting point.
Plenty of forums online that specialize in analysis as well
Either way - good luck
