hi to everyone and good day. i have a problem on my desktop (running WinME pIV 1.7Ghz 256 RAM) that i cannot connect to internet services like my internet explorer browser, my AOL instant messenger, MSN explorer, but still i can acces to my LAN with my laptop that i'm using right now and still i can transfer files, so i guess there's nothing wrong in my cable connections. i'm just wondering why it happens? i just downloaded a security patch 2 days ago from IExplorer site, and everything just messed up. by the way the LAN settings configuration is okay and network neighborhood config is also okay. can everyone help me please, please, can you give me some troubleshooting guide on this problem, and i really really appreciate your help! hope to hear from you guys, tnx very much and good day!

I'd try system restore
start-programs-accessories-system tools-system restore-choose a restore point when it was working.
give it plenty of time to perform the restore
when it is finished it will restart the pc,to the chosen restore point.
if this one doesn't help you can choose another or choose to undo the restore.

i have problems yesterday which was the result of what the technician did and all just messed up with my shell32.dll and tnx that through this site it was fixed http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/22309.html (chris), and by that problem i think i already did plenty of changes fron the registry and programs installed, i wonder if i do a system restore what will happen on my recent installed programs and changes on user configurations, will that help? and just to add an info about my probs on internet connection, when i PING on MSDOS COMMAND interface like an IP of 192.168.0.1, which is our server, it's successful, i dunno what's the matter? is it related on my Internet Explorer browser version 6.0.2x? please help me what's wrong. tnx and good day!

If you can ping the server, try to ping an outside address.

Try:

ping 209.90.0.4

That get you anywhere?

How is your network set up?

yes i can ping an outside adress, 209.90.0.4, it is sucessful.
we have a lot of computers connecting to LAN, a server, and also a separate server for our main operation. i have a laptop running WIN98SE which is fine and connected to LAN. the other one is the desktop running WINMe, and this is the one that has the problem. i usually sync my documents in both computers and seems no problem. they have the same config, except for local IP, i'm using both to connect to the internet, and right now the desktop cannot connect to the internet eventhough i can still share and transfer files between them.
i did system restore and it was unsuccessful since WINME has a bug after september 11 and i downloaded the patch but it deleted previous restore points. i also downloaded netscape and installed it but i guess it's not on the browser since i got the same error that is no connection. pls help, tnx, and good day!
