Can't connect through router

Comment:
I have setup 2 computers connecting to the internet through a speedstream router to a cable modem. One computer (XP OS) connects fine. The ME computer can't connect at all. It can't ping the router and the ME computer says its IP address is 0.0.0.0. When i pull up the browser it comes up "DNS error--Page cannot be displayed". I have set all the settings according to the manual (set it to obtain IP automatically, entered the default gateway address which is the same as i entered on my XP PC and I also entered primary and secondary DNS addresses given to me by my ISP. I contacted my ISP tech support and they ran me through everything and nothing worked. They said they have no idea (what a surprise, huh) then i contacted speedstream tech support and all i got was a recording... (another big surprise). Anybody got ANY ideas on how i can fix this... i'm desparate :)

Did this machine have dialup internet before you decide to connect by ethernet? If so. the browser still thinks it is being connected through the modem. In IE goto Tools ! Internet Options ! Connections ! Setup or run Internet Connection Wizard.

Yes, it was originally connected via dialup, but i did go through the connection wizard and told it "LAN". Still not working. Thanks for the reply
