I had an OLD monitor on my system that I had to set the display for 16 color 640x480 screen size. I now have a new CTX PL-9 monitor. 1600 x 1200 @75Hz Max resolution (1280 x 1024 @ 85 Hz reccomendend). It is supposed to be a plug and play monitor, yet I cannot seem to get the screen size changed, and the color will not change from 16 color to high color (16-bit). When I am in display, under Settings, I have tried changing the color and the screen size. When I hit "apply" or "o.k." I get the message to restart the computer before changes will take effect. I restart and yet the color remains at 16 color and 640 X 480 resolution. I have tried everything the help file suggested to no avail. I went to the CTX home and got the driver and installed it. I made sure there were no conflicts. I checked the hardware profile and deleted all other monitors. I went to the Microsft support and there are no fixes. I checked the articles. I found one that applied but I had already tried everything it suggested. NOTHING has helped so far. Does anyone have ANY ideas?

Kari, first are your drivers (or updated drivers for your video) installed?

Second, Start>>Run>>Type:"msconfig" (no quote marks)>>Press Enter >>Click [Advanced] (button) See if "VGA 680x480x16" is marked. If it is unmark it.[OK] [Apply] [OK] If you do change things will have to restart. It will say.

What kind of video card do you have? Is it isntalled correctly.

To find out:
Right click My computer.
Choose Properties.
Go to the device manager tab.
Click the plus sign by Display Adapter.

What is listed there? Go to the manufacturer's website and download/install according to instructions any updated display adapter drivers.

Usually, it is the video card that handles how many colors you can display... not the monitor drivers.

Thanks - will try that but when I checked my drivers through Windows Me troubleshooter it stated that I had all the lastest drivers for everything but I didn't actually go to the manufactures web site to check if there was an updated driver or a fix or something. I will try that. Oh by the way - I have Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X (English). I'll let you know if it works.

Thank you for all your help. I found my disk for my video card and reinstalled it now my color is fine. I am guessing the driver got corrupted or something but when I did the winows driver check it told me I had the lastest driver. I guess it was wrong. Thanks for all your help.
