Hi Guys,need some help

Problem - My display keeps going back to 640X480 and i'm unable to change it. I checked my System.ini file and in the boot section i couldnt find drivers=mmsystem.dll so i added that and also shell=explorer.exe was missing from the boot section, which i also added.
But after i restart i am still unable to change from 640X480 to 800X600.

Now the icons on my desktop and really big and grainy.

this is what the boot section in my system.ini file looks like now

[boot]
*DisplayFallback=0
SCRNSAVE.EXE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SCROLL~1.SCR
drivers=mmsystem.dll
shell=Explorer.exe

Please help me fix this, Thanks.

It seems you need to reinstall your video card drivers - do you still have the original disk???

OR (to take things in a different direction)... maybe you need to reinstall your video drivers

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

You need to download a program called everest or Belarc, it is an identifier.. it will tell you what video adapter you have and then you can get the right driver for that adapter.

Considering that this is a new occurence, then the proper drivers must have already been installed prior to this incident - either the system has 'lost' that configuration or else those drivers have become corrupted

Device Manager may provide some clues

All this mucking about with INI files is pointless

Hasve you considered a system restore ? Unless you disabled this utility, it may correct the problem ?
Good Luck Nick
