I cannot access citibank.com or citicards.com
from my pc. I think it is host file related, but can't find that file either without a .sam extension. I have seen online that I am not the first one to have this problem, but can't find a fix. Citibank techs nor my ISP techs could help me. I can access fine through my laptop through wireless router and windows xp. This is a fairly recent (1-2 months)problem. Any suggestions?

Go into IE and reset your Advanced and Security settings to the defaults. See if that makes a difference.
Have you tried another browser? Can you ping the website addresses from a Command Prompt?

I have already set the security codes to default-no help. I did try pinging and the ping failed. I am thinking that somehow the websites have been put in a host file, but I cannot for the life of me find the host file except for hosts.sam.

If you didn't make any changes to your system, and you've confirmed that you're not the only one having the problem perhaps Citibank did on their end, and your ISP hasn't updated yet. Although after 1-2 months it's kinda difficult to troubleshoot.
Try restarting the computer and see if that helps.

No, it's not on their end as I can access it through the same ISP from my home laptop and citibank seems to be in a fog as well. I did try system restore and that failed 4 different times and I thought that was kind of scary in itself.

"I did try pinging and the ping failed."
Sure, but what did it *DO*?
In particular, what address did it ping?

C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>ping www.citicards.com

I get the same, so you can assume it's not HOSTS [ note the 2 S]. But I can browse it, so it must be you browser timing out.
Got a firewall?

I heard they are having trouble with the DST patch. With DST patch comes the company's updating the entire system which takes some time. Many sites haven't got around to updating their system entirely. This is what I believe is the problem because I am having similar instances occurring on numerous websites.

If you read the thread you'd know other PCs are accessing it. It's NOT the site.

"trouble with the DST patch"
?
Fascinating theory - - yet the statement:
"I can access fine through my laptop"
kind of narrows the problem down to the one machine (your own troubles notwithstanding)
I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

For the past 3 days, I've been having the problem with being sent to the white screen after entering my user name and password. Not being very computer savvy, I went to citi's IT techs and was told that they don't support firefox or linux systems. I mentioned that linux is widely used and that prior to this month, I've been able to pay my bill online. He had the unmitigated gall to tell me to get a new computer although they are "working on it"!
I'm sorry, but I'm rather offended!

I am the one that had the original thread here. The problem disappeared when I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to Windows XP. Thanks for all of the advice.
