I want to upgrade a machine to Windows XP. Prior to doing so I assume I need to uninstall Windows ME (only one partition on my hard drive). When I go to uninstall Windows ME via the install/remove program icon in Control Panel, I do not find an option to 'uninstal windows ME'. A quick check through my files indicates that there is no uninstal executable in my Windows directory.
My machine came with Windows ME.
What should I do? My P.C. manufacturer, Micron, no longer has tech support. Thanks for Help

You wont find an uninstall icon in add and remove programs.
You need to remove windows me via format. This can be done with a windows me startup disk. Click here and follow instructions under the "lets begin" header.. 1 thru 5.
Once the drive is formatted [remove the me startup disk] insert the XP CD and restart the computer. Follow onscreen instructions to install XP. If the Xp disk doesnt autorun after restarting you may need to enter bios and change the boot order placing the cdrom 1st.
I have Cdrom then floppy then HD. This way you wont have to enter bios again to change the boot order back.

Oops... Almost forgot.. Format "erases" the HD. This means you lose everything on the drive. Make sure you back up data to removable disk before you begin. If this is not an option you might consider upgrading to XP.
This can be done by starting the computer.. inserting the xp cdrom and choosing the upgrade option.
Remember.... Its possible to lose data at any time for a number of reasons especially when upgrading or changing operating systems. Backing up to removeable disk is always important.
