Hi everyone-
I've had this system put together for a while but had only ever run Linux live CD's in it.
I've just loaded WinME & the install went w/o issue. This is a Soyo P4VGA board, 256mb DDR, Celeron 2.0Ghz. I have one optical drive & one hard drive.
The trouble is that when I open My Computer, there's a 5-1/4" A- drive listed. Looking at it's properties shows a warning that it's in DOS compatability mode & that it will "hamper system performance".
I have no "A" drive- no floppy drive, at all. No cable on the floppy port. The BIOS is set to "none" for floppy drive.
The other oddity is that this drive is not shown in the device manager?
I've tried removing the floppy controller & rebooting. I also changed the settings in BIOS to 3-1/2" on the floppy settings- & when it booted up, I got a warning of "no floppy detected" (which is correct)- however, once at the desktop, I did have a 3-1/2" drive in device manager.
I changed this back to "none" in BIOS- I no longer get the "no floppy detected" warning & it's back as a 5-1/4" drive again in device manager...Lastly, I thought that perhaps if I set it to not look for floppy drives at boot up (in device manager) that might help- no go.
Has anyone ever run into something like this? Any other ideas on how to troubleshoot this?
Tracy
PS- I just tried: going back in & shut off the 3rd & 4th boot devices, disabled IRQ 6 (which said "floppy"), & disabled the floppy controller in the hardware profile- it's still there?
