Cannot finish with

Everytime i try and run scandisk,(for instance last night) it has been running for 10 hours and still not finished. I have shutdown neartly everything running.. Any suggestions? thanks

Which scandisk did you try to do? The thorough or the standard? If you chose thorough it does take hours! Try the standard :)) Also you say you closed almost everything, I only have explorer running when doing a scandisk or defrag so try that If none of these work there could be some spyware running in the background that you're not aware of

do you mean "Load fail -safe defaults" option, from the BIOS? if so after i do it, do i just change it back to "optimal defaluls"? When not, How do i goto "safe mode" thannks again to all that helped. jt
