Hello everybody!
I have strange problem..thats why I am screaming for help.
Just tried sever times to install Windows 98SE and after unsuccessful ending desperately followed installing win ME, unfortunatelly the same end,- just after 3rd restart when hardware setup is as next step before starting win for first time, machine stucks, system halted..:( I tried it hard on different machines - both Intel&AMD, and HDD's, IDE or SATA, used different tactics for prepare volumes,-everytime setup goes to hardware checking stage and thats the end. Boot to safemode,- no problem. Does anyone has any idea? PC general config (new machine) - AMD Athlon 64 2400 MHz on AsusM2N-MX SE mainboard, 2X 1 Gb DDRAM, WD 500 Gb SATA HDD partinion for C: 20 Gb. Any help will be very much appreciated, because i still feel very intense NEED FOR SPEED! have a good day!

MS Article ID 253912: "Out of Memory" Error Messages with Large Amounts of RAM Installed

Check the third workaround out...

"Reduce the amount of memory that is installed in your computer to 512 MB or less."

Do yourself a favour, you can download VirtualPC 2007 for free and install W98 in that. W98SE is 10 years old, it will be a nightmare trying to find drivers etcetcetc....

I really apologise I didnt noticed about that memory bigger than 512 bug....shyysh!!! damn what to do now- I need to buy new RAM, cause these are 2X 1 Gb LOL!!!!
The only thing keeping me with pre-W2k OS is that they let You play older games as they should...aka NFS IISE, NFS III Hot pursuit, NFS IV High Stakes, DRIVER....man....I am an old man...I see...
After all, I will try...thank U ALL!!!
Cheers!!!

Just borrow a stick of 128 / 256 / 512 RAM from somewhere or someone.

Slot it in. Install ME. Then alter the vcache settings to get it to support more RAM, then put one of your 1GB sticks back in....

Thanx again for suggests, guyz

I did not reinstalled with less than 512 - still got to obtain one,- but I did some vcache changes and tried to load win using diagnostic start-up...well....the longer U go, the more interesting You see...I got blue screen message "Your multi-function device(standard DualPCI IDE Controller)has some child devices using 32-bit drivers and others using compatibility-mode drivers. This configuration is not supported, so your computerhas been halted to prevent......after You restart Your computerwindows will use compatibility-mode drivers for each child device atached to this multi-function device.."..and there some suggestions to contact hardware manufactureres if IO want to use 32 bit drivers :))
The question is: Whats this all about?
Should I damn refuse SATA HDD and DVD drive in order to boot ME? Or this is not connected with that type of devices system uses? Weird.....I will better prove install as all of You suggested ,- with less than 512 Mb, then will see...
