Hi All.
I have a strange error that I hope you may be able to help me with.

Today I started my PC in the Safe Mode and invoked the Maintenance Wizard.

When all was completed, I rebooted but before windows loaded and still on the black screen I received the massage "Cannot find Country Sys File"

This message lasted for about 10 seconds and then Windows continued to load.

All appears to be working O.K.

However, When I checked my "Go Back" restore program for 'Safe Points' the window was empty with the message to the effect that this occurs when there are no safe start points available.

What is this missing file and how can I get it back?

What happened to my previous list?

I do not know if the two incidents are related.

Regards

Country.sys is a driver loaded when you install a different keyboard and page code than default English and US keyboard. The file should be in the Windows\commnand sub-folder.The situation will not be a source of problems for you.The driver is loaded by the config.sys file being read when you start the computer.Windows ME does not need config.sys and autoexec.bat to load. Those two files are useful for particular cases involving hardware, regional settings, path etc.Safe points restore should get back to normal when Win ME does a regular save by itself. If you fail to boot Win ME you can boot with the boot disk and type:
scanreg /restore.You will be shown restore points one of which you choose and get a comment that a problem was corrected with the system files if any was found.Good luck.

Hi Petit Jean

Thanks for that info. I will put a copy away for future reference.

I have since fixed the problem in another way that may be unique to my situation but here goes anyway incase someone can benefit from it.

I loaded Ghost 2003 and it was a bad install. I could not even uninstall it.

I eventually used my "Go Back" program (this program disconnects the Windows Restore function). My next attempt at Ghost was good, but my next reboot is when I got the 'Country Sys' problem and it persisted upon every reboot.

I tried a 'Go Back" but I had lost all the restore points as in my original message.

I managed a successful uninstall of Ghost but the problem still prevailed.

I then uninstalled "Go Back" as at this point of time it was of no use to me.

And there it was! After uninstalling it all went well. I did a number of reboots and no problem at all.

At the moment I have the Windows Restore functioning, but will later try re-installing Go Back again.

I suspect the problem lies in the fact that both Programs make use of DOS, but this time Ghost will be the first to be loaded.

I will keep my fingers crossed.

Regards
