I thought I downloaded the Internet Explorer 6 service pack from the Windown Update web site. It told me, Update complete and sucessful, when it was completed. But when I try to download something, a window comes up and tells me, cannot download, you need Internet Explorer 6 or greater. What is going on, please help me get Explorer 6. Thank you
Howard

I assume you rebooted the system after doing the install.
Start IE and click on the "Help" button, and then the "About Internet Explorer" option.
The window will show you which Version you have (6.0.2800.1106) and under Update Versions: it should show SP1 and all of the Windows update site fixes that have been installed. You should have Q833989 and Q867282 in the list in order to be up to date.
If it does not show that you have IE 6.0 sp1 installed, then go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and check the install list. Look for "Microsoft Internet Explorer ... and Internet Tools" and it should be 6 SP1. If it is do a REPAIR. Else you will have to download the whole package again and install it.
To REPAIR IE 6.0, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove icon, and select (highlight) the entry for "Microsoft Internet Explorer ... and Internet Tools" and then click the Add/Remove button at the bottom of the window. On the options window, select the "Repair Internet Explorer" option and click OK. When it is done reboot the system.
If you have to download it again,
Open IE6.0 sp1, click Download and run the setup program, select the Minimal or customize option. Next window click Advaced.. button, then select Download Only. Save it a work folderr. IE60sp1 can now be installed from this folder by running the ie6setup.exe program. Or from ie60sp1.exe and extract.
