OS: ME
CPU/Ram: intel, 512
Product: n/a
Comment:

I read a suggestion to do a Windows repair install in a similar situation (assuming you have the CD). Is that the best course of action?
How could I tell if the disk is physicaly damaged?

I suspect you've been reading advice meant for WinXP/2K

... anyhow, (as always) use Scandisk to determine the condition of a drive - if that's what you mean

Saying that XP is the most stable MS OS is like saying that asparagus is the most articulate vegetable

Well, you need to boot the machine with your ME startup disk to run scandisk from DOS ...seeing as though you can't get into windows.

Let's just assume you don't have one. You can create one here at:

... I guess that would be you?

A bootable floppy or CD is indispensible when Windows won't - hardly a new concept (well, for most of us)

Oh what at clever insult! The use of sarcasm and condescending tone...
Bravo!
Are you the type of sad nerd that only derives joys from insulting others? I bite my thumb at you sir!
Unfortunately for your inflated ego, there is a big difference between
booting an OS (Windows ME) from a floppy disk (= impossible as far as I
know, and thus my question) and booting your computer to a floppy drive
or CD e.g. a Windows ME startup CD to use scandisk in DOS mode as
suggested to check the integrity of the hard disk. I appreciate the help
that was provided.

Waiting for Justin to remove that one..dillinger, if you have been a bit more descriptive of your symptoms that indicate a problem, you would have received helpful assistance. Slamming the regulars (or the newbies for that matter) is not something Justin normally tolerates, and if you continue to do so, you may find yourself banned.

Next shoe?
