I recently got a desktop message (lower right hand corner balloon) that says my hard drive is full. This suprised me a bit since I'd checked several hours earlier and I still had 4 Gigs free.
I delete the temp files as usual but that only frees up a few megs. I look through my C drive and find that the _Restore folder contains 24,000 files and is over 8 gigs. I research this site and others, find out how to clear this folder by resetting the disc space use or by disabling System Restore completely.
And here's the problem: System Restore was already disabled. I re-enabled it, rebooted, tried to adjust the disc space use, but the slider was greyed out. Couldn't adjust it. Disabled it again, rebooted. Still 8 gigs of files in there.
Any ideas on how to get rid of these files? or why the usual methods don't work?
Any help would be very appreciated. This one folder is taking up almost half of my hard drive. Thanks in advance.

Use a startup disk.
Deltree c:\_RESTOREMake a restore file:
echo This is a dummy file>c:\_RESTOREIn MSConfig, Startup tab, disable *StateMgr

Thanks for the help.
Could you clarify on the second part?
"Make a restore file:
echo This is a dummy file>c:\_RESTORE"I'm not entirely certain what you mean or how to do that. Thx again.

Somehow, even with System Restore disabled, the _RESTORE folder continues to fill up. The next two steps stop that from happening.
•Go to DOS using a StartUp Disk. At the prompt, type deltree c:\_RESTORE. Answer y at the prompt.
• At the DOS prompt, type the following line exactly as it appears below:
echo This is a Dummy File > c:\_RESTORE
