Can you turn off Outlook Express?

Hello,
I have always used a web-based email account (Yahoo Mail) and have no need for Outlook Express on my system. I do not wish to delete it, just in case I need it one day.
The other day I decided to try it out just to see if it worked. It asked me to set up an email account with Hotmail. I did and then it asked me which "identity" I wanted to use. I selected the one I had just created, typed a test email and sent it to myself at Yahoo.com.
Now, I can't shut the darn thing off!!! Everytime I go online it attempts to log on! If I click on an email address on a website, the computer now opens Outlook Express instead of my Yahoo mail account like it used to.
What have I done? Is there a way to tell the computer not to use Outlook Express automatically as my default mail?

Chris,
Try this: with Internet Explorer open, go to tools, internet options, progams, e-mail and there you can change which program is used as your default mail program.
Hope that helps.

You can uncheck Outlook Express from the Windows Setup tab in Add/Remove Programs. You can always reinstall it if you want to; just recheck Outlook Express.

Hello, Start outlook express, click tools, then accounts. You should see your yahoo account under the mail tab. Highlight yahoo, then click remove. Hope that works for ya.
