Hey all,

I asked this question yesterday, but I am still stuck. If anyone knows where I can find more info, or if there is another board that deals with directX more specifically, I would appreciate a link or something.

My problem is:

I did a complete reformat a month ago. Reinstalled all my video/audio/modem cards etc.

I have a Radeon 9700pro that supports Dx9 installed in my system. It seems to be working ok. I had Dx8.1 installed until two nights ago, when I was updating some windows features and I decided to download Dx9 beacuse my graphics card supports it.

But, after installing Dx9, I noticed an error when I tried to run dxdiag.

It said, something to the effect of: "DxDiag has detected that there may have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time?" -Then it gives a yes orr no option. If I select no, I get a general yellow (!) error saying dxdiag has caused an error in ..etc., etc.

The strange thing is, that was the first time I had recieved any error or notice that D3D wasn't working...or whatever it was or wasn't doing.

I am wondering what I can do to resolve this.

When I press yes, dxdiag loads up ok, I guess, but I can't test Direct 3d draw or direct 3d or whatever, as it says that it isn't enabled in dxdiag or something...?

I am in major need of some advice here.

Thanks again, Matt.

Unless a game asks for DX9 there isn't any need to install it yet, and even then it would come with the game. Doesn't windows XP untilise it?
Unfortunately there isnt any way to revert back to DX 8.1. You'll have to reinstall windows again to do that.
I would try reformatting again but go straight on with dx9 if you insist on using it. Does anyone u know have an old Hard Drive knocking about you can use to try it?

Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, I am using the latest drivers.

And, that seems logical...not installing dx9 until it is needed...but, I read that it doesn't really matter because they are backwards compatible...?

Well, everything seems to be running ok, and my video card doesn't seem to be functioning any different than when I had 8.1 installed... weird.

Well, again, thanks all for your help and advice :)

Matt.
