Thank You for this opportunity! My problem is while browsing the internet I will have a web site I'll call page 1 that will have several links in it. I will select a link and the page will open, I will take a look and when done I will either close the link page or hit the back icon depending on what it takes to get back to (page 1). I will continue this pattern all is well then maybe every fifth link I click while on page 1 the web page goes blank the world is turning but nothing seems to be happening. My remedy for this is to 1) close the selected links page, clear the error page that follows, select the link again from (page 1). Again nothing happens. I perform remedy 1 again and when web page 1 appears I refresh it's page wait, and when it is refreshed, the links pages appear ok then like clock work every fourth, fifth, sixth page the problem occurs again and I must refresh the web page 1 again.

This will occur while using exployer 5.0, 5.5 or 6.0. I used a couple other browsers to experiment but the same problem occurs.

My computer is a Compaq Deskpro 4000 pentium II - 233 MHz system. Operating system is Windows Me. I have 256 MBytes memory. I delete my temporary folder after each session along with cookies and the history file.
My modem is a U.S. Robotics 56K Fax Win Int. My ISP is primedial.net and AT&T worldnet.

The only thing I can think of is to check in the internet properties. When a IE browser window is open,go to tools>internet options>on the general tab, select settings in the temp. internet section.Make sure you have set the cache to about 10MB,and set to chech for newer versions of stored pages to auto.Hope this helps.

Just for starters...have you done a full virus scan with updated definitions?(God,I sound redundant!!!...lol)Scanned for Spyware, using Adaware?...there's more, but IMHO,that's the best place to start.

Please post back...we love to help/learn here!

Tom,
I think the slider should be way far to the left with only "10" showing in the window.
You've probably done this but go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/disc cleanup and empty temp internet files etc.
Some say that you should do this periodicaly anyway.

Try this click tools-internet options-on the general tab click settings and make sure you have a dot in every visit to the page........I think you have to reboot to apply..

Not gonna get mad sometimes for some reason the auto does not work right, think it depends on which ie, just can't remember which ie version, just like ie6 you can't set the time to not disconnect yourself when idle on the internet if you has msnia 5.6. so thought he could try it. ha ha guess it did not work?

Do you have multiple versions of Internet Explorer on your computer? I didn't think you could do that on a PC. If you are running a Mac, then you can have multiple versions of IE. And likewise, if you are running a PC you can have multiple versions of Netscape.

I don't know if that has anything to do with your problem, but it might. Oh, duh, I see that you have a Compaq. Well, if you have downloaded multiple versions of IE that might be a problem. IE 6 does not take well to being uninstalled.

Did you try a system restore to before you started having this problem?

Hi everybody. Thank You for all you replys.I will try and answer all of them without being to lenghtly. I'm at work but when I get home I'm thinking of re-formating my hard disc wiping out windows me and loading windows 98. My wifes comouter has windows 98 and exployer 5 and it does not have the problem I'm having.

I do clear my temp files, history everything after each session. I've tried every option available on the check for versions, Thanks Sue. Suzi, I did uninstall exployer6 I now have exployer 5.5 that comes with Me but I rarely use it because I downloaded 2 different browsers that work better, Crazy IE
and MyIE. As you can see I'm trying everything to fix this problem. As I mentioned it does not matter which browser I'm using or isp I use I have the same problem. Select a web page, select a link within that page, go back to the first page select another link, go back to first again, do this maybe 4 to 5 times and the next time the window says searching or whatever and nothing will happen for quite sometime.

The only fix I've found is to close the new link, and when the original page appears refresh it (thats slow) and when it's refreshed I can proceed and all links open as normal until the next 4 or 5 times opening a link within the original page. This pattern will go on all night.

I'll check for any more ideas when I get home in 9 hours try them and if nothing else works I load win 98 as mentioned above.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR TIME. I'LL CHECK LATER AND IF I GO BACK TO 98 I LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW THAT WORKED.
