I am living in Ireland and there is only one broadband service available and it costs over €150($150)per month. They are bringing out a broadband in June for €40 per month. I am just wondering is this cheap for broadband? How much does it cost elsewhere.

$150 per month seems scandalous!!!

In England, you can get 512kb/sec broadband for less than £30pm, a couple of pounds less if you pay by direct debit. A number of ISP's are offering lower speed connections for less, NTL for example charge £15 pm for 128kb/sec but you need a cable connection.

Gearoid - this answer depends entirely on where you are living in Ireland.

In Dublin there are now at least three providers of broadband. Eircom are charging Euro 107 (approx. equal to the dollar) per month for the 128/512 residential service, which I agree is very expensive.

EsatBt are charging about Euro 50 for their new residential package in enabled areas, only some areas are enabled

http://www.esatbt.com/esatcom/homepage/products_solutions/access/dsl/dsl-listofexchanges.htm

This service is 256/256 (i.e. 256 upload, 256 download).

Irish Broadband services are about the same price as EsatBt for a wireless system if you have a "line of sight" to their three base stations for a very good 512/512 connection

www.irishbroadband.ie

These prices are already coming down and the network is spreading. As time passes it is bound now to get rapidly better, but that is Dublin I am talking about.

Satellite broadband is also available throughout Ireland
