I have ME installed on my PC and it has been working fine, up untill now.. Today and yesterday it has been harder and harder to boot, and now I can not boot at all. The machine locks up on the first ME loading screen and does nothing more, i can press escape and see my bios settings but that is all. When I try to boot into safe mode the PC tells me 'The file NFSHLP.something is missing or corrupt' 'Please type in the correct place of this file' and All I get is a C> prompt, WHAT DO I DO I HAVE VERY VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON MY HARD DRIVE!!! Is there ANY way I can recover this information or not? Am I screwed?!

If you can't get into safe mode you may be out of luck. Try booting from a boot disk and reinstalling Me over itself. Also, you might be able to remove the drive and install it temporarily on a second machine so that you can copy your important information if you have to do a complete reinstall.

this is a good case for partitioning a harddrive.it pays to keep important info seperate from the boot partition.

The data is probably fine, the easiest way to retreive it before you worry about what the issue with the machine would be to back it up. Fastest way would be if you anve another pc, just put the HD is as a slave and copy it ot the additional HD (then worry about fixing the machine).
