I haven't been able to boot my system in
anything but safe mode since I tried to add
some DVD software. If I try to boot in
normal mode I get the following -Exception OE has occured at 0028:D2D90AFA in
VXD ---
This was called from 0028:C182843C in VXD
SCSI1hlp(03)+0000077c.I tried uninstalling the DVD software that caused this problem, but that didn't work. I don't have a windows ME CD to try and restore. So, I tried moving the C:\Windows\System\IOsubSYS\SCSI1hlp.vxd file into a different folder, but that didn't work.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Try 'System Restore'. START - PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - SYSTEM TOOLS - SYSTEM RESTORE.
Pick a date before your failed install of that software. It will take between 10 and 30 minutes to restore your computer back to how things were on the date that you select. Any updates & programs you installed since that date will be lost. By the sounds of things, the only thing you will lose is the poorly PC and you will have the machine back to normal.P.S. If you get problems in the future, the first place to look is 'here' for help.

What "didn't work" with the uninstall and the moved VXD?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Thank you, I meant that after uninstalling the DVD software and moving the vxd file, it still would not boot into normal mode.
Now I just get the error:
"Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer. System Haulted."I restart and can still only restart into safe mode.
I may be able to get ahold of a Windows ME CD so will try and boot from that and see if I can run a repair. Any other suggestions though would be helpful.

I got the Windows ME reinstall CD, but it doesn't have a repair feature.
If I install Windows ME without deleting the current installation, would I lose any data/files? I'm afraid to do a reinstall since I don't have any backups of my files. I know in Windows 2000 and Windows XP you can do a reinstall or repair and not lose any files, I'm jut not familiar enough with Windows ME.
Any suggestions?
