Hi
I just installed a 8 gig hard drive(not new but works fine) and when I restart it hangs at the splash screen. If I press some buttons on the keyboard I can eventually get to the desktop (hangs at various places in between) but little works including the mouse. When I shut down with the power button it starts up perfectly. Had this problem before with a different hard drive after Windows installation but problem was that PNP OS was set to no in Setup. Changed it to yes and it booted fine. Not in this case. Can someone help me with this very annoying problem? Thanks in advance.

Does it always boot fine into safe mode? If so, you could try msconfig to disable any unneeded programs from loading on startup. This could be the culprit. Also have you tried to look at the bootlog.txt file when it has problems booting? That may also point out the problem.
