Okay, I posted once before about not being able to use my oem disks to restore. I was given great ways to resolve that problem... but now I have more.
Okay. My system will NOT allow me make a restore point. I have made sure it is enabled. It will allow the process to begin then tell me there is an issue and that I should restart and try again. Yea, well, that doesn't make a difference. I have unistalled tweak thinking maybe that was what was blocking it but, nope, just won't work.
Okay, I also tried making a boot disk. I was missing like 20 files and told me my reg. might be corrupted. so I went and got the boot disk download off a website. It got into the thing and started up after reboot just fine, then not even a quarter of the way thru the surface scan on my c drive it decided it couldn't do any more and quit. I rebooted and now any time I open a folder there is nothing there. Well, its all there just not able to be seen. Every single folder is like this. Changing the 'archive, hidden, readable' settings makes no difference. So, ugg. Thankfully everything I have ever downloaded or made is put onto backup cds.
I can get to just about everything thru the start menu though, so games an proggies still work, for the most part anyway.
I also have trouble closing all folders. The alt-f/close and 'x' just make a beep and do not function. I have to ctrl-alt-del out of every folder.
Also, the windows reinstall from within the win files does not work. it gets to the setup just fine and then into copying the files but stops at 61%. It pops up with a white error screen saying 'SUwin has caused an error in verx.dll' and then there is no way to by pass it except to click close.
so, I am in trouble aren't I? sigh
So, thank you guys for all info cause you all rock!!

If you cannot get through a surface scan from a startup floppy that sounds to me like your hard drive is failing. See if you can download a diagnostic from the manufacturer and do a thorough test of the drive.
