I am hoping someone can help. This is a custom built system with 1.0 Ghz Athlon CPU, 128mb RAM, 40GB HD and a NVIDIA TNT2 Model 64 video card. Several times a week I get the following message while booting "System halted. Error: An I/O subsystem driver failed to load. Either a file in the .\iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt or the system is low on memory". Usually if you press reset the system will restart and give the choice of "normal", "logged" or "safe mode" starting and it will start normally. If you press "logged" and check log there is no indication of a failed load. About two weeks ago it would not start in any mode including safe mode. I put the system emergency start up disk and Windows ME CD in and reinstalled Windows. About one week before this happened I installed a CenDyne CD-R/RW drive and the Nero Software included with it. After I reinstalled Windows and I got the error message again I Uninstalled all the Nero software. It seemed the problem left but now I got the same error message again. I checked Device Manager and found nothing and I ran Scandisk many times, but the problem still occurs every several days. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!

I would suggest you make sure you have the current drivers for you nVidia display adapter from nVIDIA . If you are still using the drivers that came with the card it could be causing problems that are now only showing up.
Also, look in the \Windows\System\IoSubSys folder for any real old (prior to 6-8-00) that may have been installed and try to find a way to get rid of them.
As for Nero, go to their site for the updated drivers too, some of the ship level stuff could be backlevel.
Hi My error states" Exception OE occured at 0028:C000E8BE in VXD VMM(01) +00D8BE This was called from 00028:C004ACPF in VXD V Fat(01) +0000B23F. It may possible to operate normally. This happened at shutdown in Win ME. Was able to shut down when any key was pushed What is the problem? Thanks-Mark
I am sorry it took so long to reply and I hope this is the right place to reply. I downloaded new drivers for the video card and if it did nothing else my daughters games don't lock up any more. I still get the error message from time to time but I found that it helps to run scandisk before shutdown. Scandisk often finds errors in the FSInfoSector and I think it may be related to the problem. I ran System Configuration Utility (msconfig). On the "General" tab I pushed "Extract File" button and replaced as many iosubsys as Windows allowed (windows did not allow me to replace 5 of the files) and I think this also helped. I tried to go to the WIN ME "tune up" sites but my browser couldn't find the page but I haven't given up. I have also reinstaled Nero and I don't think it was the cause of the problem. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
